Transfer Process for F-1 Visa Students

At Oxford International New York City, we welcome F-1 visa students who want to transfer from other schools. Below is our step-by-step guide to help you transition smoothly.

Steps to Transfer

1.Consultation & SEVIS Verification
Contact the Designated School Official (DSO) at your current institution to confirm your SEVIS record is in Active status. Your SEVIS status must be valid for a successful transfer to Oxford International NYC.

2.Required Documents for Application
Please prepare and submit the following:

  • Copy of your passport
  • Copy of your current F-1 visa
  • Copy of your current I-20 (ensure the Form Issue Reason is listed as “Continued Attendance”; if it says “Initial Attendance,” speak with your DSO)
  • Copy of your I-94
  • Completed Enrollment Agreement Form
  • Recent bank statement proving financial ability (as per our requirements)

3.Registration Fee Payment
Submit the registration fee to start the process. (Fee amount: $200).

4.Transfer Out & Transfer In Documents

  • Request a “Transfer Out Form” from your current school’s DSO indicating your intention to transfer to Oxford International NYC.
  • Provide us with that form and the other required documents listed above.

5.Issuance of New I-20
Once your SEVIS record is transferred to Oxford International NYC, our DSO will issue you a new I-20. Note: Tuition fee (or required portion) must be paid before your new I-20 can be issued.

6.Orientation and Class Start
Before classes begin, you’ll receive:

  • A speaking (or level) test if needed
  • An email with your class schedule
  • Information about orientation (attendance is mandatory)

Important Things to Know

  • Full-time Enrollment Required: You must enroll in a full-time program (minimum of 18 hours per week) to maintain F-1 visa status. Part-time enrollment does not meet visa requirements.
  • Attendance Requirement: Maintain at least 80% attendance. Unexcused absences or low attendance may jeopardize your F-1 status and your SEVIS record.
  • Transfer Time Frame: You should enroll at Oxford International NYC within 60 days after finishing your studies at your previous school. Delays beyond this period could affect your visa status.
  • Initial Transfer After U.S. Entry (if applicable):
    If you are transferring before beginning studies at your current school after entering the U.S., ensure to complete the transfer within 30 days after U.S. entry and begin at Oxford International NYC right away. Notify us immediately if this applies to you.
